P A R T n e R S h I P F O R h e A l T h M O n T h l Y S T R e S S R e d U C T I O n T I P S We all know exercise is beneficial for our physical fitness, but did you know that it is one of the best ways to combat stress and improve our mental well-being too? Research shows that there are both short- and long-term benefits of stress reduction through exercising on a regular basis. While exercising, your body releases endorphins which work in the brain to make you feel good. Because exercise makes you concentrate on what you are doing, it acts as meditation for your thoughts, so you forget your stressors. Doing this on a regular basis leads to a calmer and clearer mind, even when you are not actively exercising. Sleep is often improved by regular exercise and better sleep helps you cope with stress. Fitting in a new exercise program can seem stressful in itself, but research shows that even short intervals of exercise on a regular basis is beneficial. Non-traditional exercise such as gardening or dancing can reduce stress just like walking, running or yoga can. If you haven't been active, check with your doctor before starting and then take it slow to avoid injury. Make time in your schedule, even if you have to be creative with when and pick the activities you love. You'll be on your way to feeling better, both physically and mentally. "October, the extravagant sister, has ordered an immense amount of the most gorgeous forest tapestry for her grand reception," ~ Oliver Wendell Holmes, ' Autumn '
