Courtrooms are full of drama and with good reason – there's a lot at stake for the people involved in the proceedings. Whether seeking justice for a crime, ruling on a personal injury lawsuit or deciding terms of a divorce, outcomes decided in court can significantly impact the participants' futures. Fortunately, most people won't ever experience courtroom drama firsthand, but they can do so vicariously through movies. Hollywood has long recognized the appeal of the courtroom drama. Just look at the number of legal films made over the years. Trying to narrow that list down to the best legal movies ever made is almost impossible. There are films covering every aspect of law from capital crimes to civil suits over environmental issues and unlawful terminations, to divorce, and even to war crimes. Every "Best List" out there has its own version of top legal movies, but the one movie they all place at the top of their lists is the classic, To Kill A Mockingbird. This 1962 film starring Gregory Peck won three Oscars and was recently revised as a Broadway play. Other legal films included on almost every "best" list: • 12 Angry Men – starring Henry Fonda and nominated for three Oscars; about the tensions that can arise during jury deliberations; • A Few Good Men – starring Jack Nicholson, Tom Cruise and Demi Moore and nominated for four Oscars; about the investigation of a murder complicated by the Marine Code; • Erin Brockovich – starring Julia Roberts who won Best Actress; a David and Goliath tale about a legal assistant who takes down a giant power company; • Kramer v. Kramer – starring Dustin Hoffman and Meryl Streep and winner of five Oscars; heart-wrenching story of a custody battle between divorcing spouses. • And, of course there's my favorite, the Oscar winning My Cousin Vinny starring Joe Pesci and Marisa Tomei, because we all need to laugh at ourselves once in a while. What movies would make your "Best Legal Films Ever" list? The choices are endless. – Victor Rotolo H u n t e R d o n H e a l t H a n d w e l l n e s s C e n t e R o F F e R s p R o g R a M a n d F R e e F o o t s C R e e n i n g The Hunterdon Health and Wellness Center and Hunterdon Podiatric Medicine will host a free program, Taking Care of Your Feet and Foot Screening on Wednesday, September 11 from 12:30 pm – 1:30 pm. Since its opening in 1963, the charm and beauty of the Red Mill Museum Village has drawn hundreds of thousands of visitors to Clinton, New Jersey. It is said to be the most photographed building in New Jersey and one of the top ten in the nation. Besides offering the public a glimpse of working life in days past, the Mill also owns thousands of pieces of textiles, home goods, tools, photographs and more. We are proud to maintain our local history and heritage and share this with the public. Thousands of school children visit each year to tour the grounds, make candles, learn about blacksmithing and try their hand at quill writing. Annually we host many events including War Reenactments, Agro- Industry Day, Kids' Day, Ghost and Folklore tours, live concerts and the ever-popular Haunted Mill, and now we are asking you, our friends and fans, for some assistance. You may have noticed that the wheel has not been spinning for some time now. We believe a functioning waterwheel adds to the unique charm and appeal of our historical treasure. We need your help for this and other preservation efforts. Our goal of $250,000 is lofty, but fully achievable with your support and dedication to helping us. The Red Mill Museum Village is a privately funded 501c3 non- profit organization that relies on the generous support of donors like you. Please donate and together we can #savethewheel! If you would like to make a larger donation, recurring donation during the campaign, or payments on a donation amount, please contact our Executive Director Paul Muir a:t 908.735.4101, ext. 101 or email: director@theredmill.org.
