W i n t e r N at u r e C l u b at Echo Hill Eight Tuesdays, Jan. 8 to Feb. 26, Age 4-K, $90/8 lessons Session A: 9:30 am to 11:00 am, Session B: 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm Session C: 4:00 pm to 5:15 pm Our popular Winter Nature Club introduces your child to many exciting nature topics. A professional Park Naturalist will guide the children during hikes as they discover the diverse field, fores and pond habitats at Echo Hill. Hands-on activities include science experiments, field games and take-home craft projects. Children observe subtle changes from week to week as we progress through the season and hone their attention to detail as we observe the colors, shapes, textures and sounds of the natural world. Please be sure to dress your child for the outdoors so that the whole group will be able to enjoy our lessons fully. We strongly recommend old clothes and sneakers/ boots that can get dirty. Nature Clubs meet rain or shine. In inclement weather, we shorten our outdoor adventures to spend more time indoors. Registration for these programs is required and is first-come, first-served. Class size is limited to eight children. For a registration form, go to our website at: www.co.hunterdon.nj.us, and click on "Parks & Recreation." For more information call the Parks Division at: 908.782.1158. V olunteers needed for CERT: C ommunity E mergency R esponse T eam The Clinton Township CERT Team is actively looking for new members to join us in our role of aiding the Township and County during times of crisis. We're a group of 18 adults (internal and external to Clinton Township) who have taken an 8 week multi-discipline training course on topics such as first aid, search and rescue, fire safety and control, disaster planning and anti-terrorism. We continually participate in various training exercises to keep our skills sharp and we support various events in Clinton and neighboring communities as requested. CERT is an all volunteer squad; our recent activities included manning the Route 12 shelter during Hurricane Sandy and the resulting area hardship, Hurricane Irene and the snowstorm in October 2011, and assisting with the Clinton Christmas Parade and Lebanon July 4th Parade, among others. For further information, contact Carl Pflanzer at 908.205.3883. You don't need to be a CT resident to join the team, nor is it required to complete the training course to join. Thank you in advance. T h e F r i e n d ly S o n s of 908.735.0809 S t . P a t r i ck The Friendly Sons of St. Patrick (FSSP) of Hunterdon County has directly distributed more than $9,000 in the past two months to families in need: $2,200 to the Hartigan-Love Family to assist with housing, $1,700 for a housing security deposit and home supplies for a single father of three and $1,947 to assist Barbara Lee who is battling cancer. FSSP funds organizations that offer assistance throughout our County. The Family Success Center (Flemington) needed $2,500 to build a handicap access ramp–FSSP responded with the full amount. When the Carmelite Nuns needed a freezer, FSSP donated $550. Following Hurricane Sandy, FSSP acted on a call from Clinton-area churches for cleaning supplies by delivering $220 worth of supplies bound for the Jersey Shore, Staten Island and Queens. In what has become an annual tradition each November, FSSP purchased and delivered 22 toys for the Clinton Elks Toys for Tots program. FSSP/Hunterdon meets the second Tuesday each month at 8:00 pm at the Clinton Elks Lodge. The FSSP raises and distributes funds to families devastated by medical bills, assists children with disabilities, supports non-profits that benefit people in need (more than $70,000 in the past five years) and promotes Irish-American culture. Helping others is a cornerstone of the Friendly Sons of St Patrick and, according to FSSP president Michael Darcy, it is all done with good cheer.
