Family Promise's mission is to help overcome and prevent homelessness. The 13th Annual Bring the Heat Chili Cook-Off was once again a great success! On Saturday April 13 a combination of 23 individuals and restaurants entered their chilis – hats off to the winners! The Judges' panel awarded the following prizes: First Place: Debra Coleman, "Make Chili Great Again". Second Place: Janet Longo, "Jan's Turkey Chili." Third Place: Rich DeTorres, "Off the Hoof Chili" BEST RESTAURANT went to The Homestead Butcher Shop for its "Mean Gene's Chili Beans"! The Homestead is new to the area and is located on Route 22 West in Lebanon. And the People's Choice winners were: Rich DeTorres, the individual winner for his "Off the Hoof Chili" and Rosemarie's Cucina, for its "Ragin' Cajun Vegetarian Chili". Rosemarie's Cucina is new to Hunterdon County and features wholesome Italian cooking. The Newcomers Club of North Hunterdon and the Knights of Columbus Council # 6245 wish to thank everyone who came out and supported this fundraiser. A portion of the proceeds from this fundraiser are donated to the Clinton Fire & Rescue Squad. Over the past thirteen years, they have donated over $10,000 to the Squad and will continue supporting them in all they do for Clinton and the surrounding community. Environmental and Social Justice: Angela De Sapio, a member of the South Highlands Group and Sierra Club's State Executive Committee, will host a talk that will explain how disproportionate or unfair zoning, housing situations, or laws increase the burden on communities of color and individuals of low socio-economic status. Environmental and Social Justice means equality for all in our community impacted by Climate Change, health concerns, pollution and racism.
