"It is dry, hazy June weather. We are more of the earth, farther from heaven these days." ~ Henry David Thoreau y m C a h o s t s 1 7 t h a n n u a l g o l f C l a s s i C ! The Hunterdon County YMCA will host the 17th Annual Golf Classic at Stanton Ridge Golf and Country Club on Monday, June 17. The Golf Classic provides an opportunity to give back to our community, while spending a great day on the golf course. Previous Golf Classics have been attended by roughly 100 golfers, and the 2017 event was highlighted by the event's first-ever hole-in-one winner, Bob Gill, who took home a 2017 GLC300W4 from Flemington Mercedes. The event begins at 10:00 am with registration, and a 12:00 pm shotgun start. The scramble event will include 18 holes of golf, golfer giveaways, lunch and a buffet dinner. Prizes will be awarded in several categories with special prizes for on-course challenges including longest drive and closest to the pin. While the Golf Classic is an annual event, the work that it supports is far from ordinary. All proceeds from the event benefit the YMCA financial assistance program, a confidential program making Y services available to all Hunterdon County community members regardless of their ability to pay. The Golf Classic is one of the Y's most important fundraising events. With the support of fundraisers such as the Golf Classic, in the past two years the YMCA has provided nearly $1 million in financial assistance to members of the Hunterdon County community. This has allowed over 3000 individuals to benefit from Y programs and services such as swim lessons and child care. With requests for financial assistance growing each year, the YMCA remains committed to meeting the needs of the community. Through the financial assistance program, scholarships are awarded for childcare, swim lessons, summer camp, youth programs and fitness center memberships. The Y also offers programs which are open to the community at no cost, such as LIVESTRONG at the Y for cancer survivors, the Special Olympics Swim Team, the Active Older Adult Center, the Produce Distribution Program and the Second Grade Learn to Swim Program. Registration for individual golfers is $250, and a variety of sponsorship opportunities are also available. For more information on supporting the Golf Classic through sponsorship or joining us on the golf course, please contact Christine Coffey at: ccoffey@hcymca.org or 908.483.4326, or visit us online at: www.hcymca.org/golf. The Hunterdon County YMCA is a 501(c)3 charitable organization. With the assistance of the community, the Y is able to remain true to its mission to help all people grow in spirit, mind and body.
