5 J a n u a r y 2 0 1 9 Dear Ruth – Fran and I much enjoy your column. You scored well with your piece about TV drug ads and the frizzy headed sales fellow. I have one point to add. I think it should be illegal for the drug ads to run all those loving, heartwarming scenes while they are describing the huge number of possible negative side effects of the drug they are flagging. They are meeting the letter of the law but are not meeting the intent. A severe mange outbreak along with those jelly fish brains should have center stage for your attention. Stay the course – Tom C., Annandale Thanks for your note, Tom. We are in agreement about those warm and fuzzy TV ads. It's frustrating that there are so many things going on in this country that we are unable to change. (And my time is running out!!!) – Ruth Dear Ruth – You are changing things. Your columns bring a smile, a life insight. Not a small a c c o m p l i s h m e n t . Ray Martin and Joey Gaffney, both Rutgers college students, will share tales of their grand adventure hiking and camping in Yellowstone at the January meeting of the South Highlands Group of the Sierra Club. Ray, a former local boy scout, grew up in Hunterdon County. Both boys grew up in rural areas and had some prior camping experience, but were not really sure if they were ready for back country Yellowstone. The park staff was there to help them plan interesting routes, steer them away from high bear activity areas and offer other tips to help the first time Yellowstone campers negotiate the park. The trip was challenging and very different than anything they had done before... and they can't wait to go back! These are our future environmental leaders and stewards. Please come to hear their tales of summer adventure and views about our park's future on January 2 (Wednesday) at the North County Branch Library in Clinton at 7:00 pm. The program is free and open to the public! Find out more at: www. SierraClub.org/new-jersey/south-highlands.
