I look forward to continuing the work that began this summer when I served as the Acting Superintendent. Our administrative team has worked h a r d w i t h t h e s t a f f i n p r o f e s s i o n a l development and student programs. The Fall seemed to fly by and we are well into the winter season! The weather surprised us all with an early storm and the CTSD students greeted colder weather and holiday celebrations with winter concerts and celebrations. The students in grades 6th, 7th and 8th performed winter concerts on December 4 and 11 to a packed audience in the CTMS auditorium. Students from Round Valley School performed their band and orchestra winter concert on December 18 at the middle school auditorium. The Round Valley School Golden Eagle singers will perform on January 30, 2019 at the Clinton Township Middle School auditorium. Our Staff has be busy with professional development in Problem-based learning, R e a d e r ' s & W r i t e r ' s w o r k s h o p a n d articulation opportunities. Professional development on December 12 with George Scott who presented on Stress and Anxiety. I hope you and your families have a relaxing Holiday Season and a fantastic New Year! – Superintendent of Schools Michele Cone, MA I N O U R S C H O O L S : A L e t t e r f r o m Michele Cone, Superintendent of Schools Science and Social Studies Update- Grade 4 In Science, students have been learning about internal and external structures and functions of plants and animals. For their final assessment, the students studied all about honeybees. They used their research to apply structure and function to the importance of honeybees and their impact on the environment. In Social Studies, students have been learning about the historical role of New Jersey and its impact during the Revolutionary War. With this information, students will be creating time lines of the events. Grade 5 D u r i n g m a t h f i f t h g r a d e r s are diving i n t o f r a c t i o n w o r k b y d e v e l o p i n g fluency with a d d i t i o n a n d s u b t r a c t i o n o f f r a c t i o n s . Through hands on lessons, students are learning about matter and its interactions. Students are analyzing how matter is made of particles too small to be seen and then providing evidence to support their findings. Spruce Run School November was a month of thankfulness and trying new things. Preschoolers gathered together for a feast centered around thankfulness. They sampled traditional foods and prepared applesauce and mashed potatoes with the support of the SRS team. M o v i n g i n t o D e c e m b e r , preschoolers continued to explore and move inside and out while learning about the ever changing weather. The SRS team and parent volunteers prepared for a winter celebration and a season of giving. Preschool families and staff collected supplies for students in C a m d e n a s p a r t o f t h e Camden Collection Service Project with PMG. We hope everyone had a safe and memory-filled December! Round Valley School Third Grader Science In the past few weeks, third graders have busy studying and tracking the weather. Students have been recording the weather daily and are now able to predict weather based on cloud formations. These meteorologists e v e n l e a r n e d a b o u t c l i m a t e z o n e s a n d participated in various STEM investigations. Kindergarten Information Night Although the weather is cold outside, we are making plans for entrance to our kindergarten program in the Fall of 2019! To be eligible for kindergarten during the 2019-2020 school year, a child must be 5 years of age on or before October 1, 2019. We would like to invite parents of incoming kindergarten students to our Kindergarten Information Night on January 24, 2019 (snow date of January 31, 2019) from 7:00-8:00 PM. A child must be 5 years of age on or before October 1, 2019 to be eligible for kindergarten during the 2019-2020 school year.
