I'm not big on New Years Resolutions but I'm really going to make an effort to accomplish one long overdue project. I absolutely WILL throw or give away a dozen or more old shoes and pocketbooks. They have multiplied in my closet like a bunch of bunnies over the years and that inner voice of mine repeating "but I just might want to wear it on a special occasion" needs to be silenced. Other than that I don't foresee any changes in the next 12 months. Rather, I just want to retain the status quo while quietly beginning my 92nd year in February. I want to continue the questionable blessing of being able to take a bubble bath in the tub, unassisted! And to continue the minor miracle of being able to cut my own toe nails. These might seem laughable to those of you who haven't yet reached 80, but your turn is coming (if you're lucky) and what now seems like a piece of cake to you may evolve into a surmountable effort some day. My mind remembers most stuff fairly well. And when I am unable to recall the name of my fourth grade teacher, usually within hours or days her name will surprise me and break through the fog of many decades and I will feel triumphant. (It was Mrs. Anna Davenport in Grant School in Westfield – I can do kindergarden right up to 6th grade!) I just hope my memory continues to serve me well in 2019. I'm a real fan of the TV show "Jeopardy" and sit on the den couch every night at 7 pm secretly congratulating myself when I come up with the right answers… especially when the three contestants can't. I so want someone to be nearby to verify my brain is still functioning at its peak! I'm looking forward, in 2019, to the last season of "The Big Bang Theory". And I hope to watch videos of my great grandkids as they become even more adorable and clever. I hope I will still be able to read lots of books – a favorite pastime. My eyes are on the 5th year with the same eyeglass lenses, so that's a plus. With luck I'll still have the strength to walk every morning, to lug the garbage can up and down the driveway on Fridays and to drive Harold on errands and lunch dates without mishaps. And, it goes without saying, to see my wonderful friends and family as often as possible. I read this in a magazine recently: "It sounds grim, but I believe there is a lot of joy in realizing that I am old enough to die and that it doesn't matter right now if I do everything perfectly. I'm not going to stop having a vodka tonic just because it's a bad thing in somebody's accounting." I so agree! Shirley (Sherry) Havens CRS, GRI, SRES ® Sales Associate Questions About Real Estate?
