1 5 N o v e m b e r 2 0 1 8 Grade 5 Science: In fifth grade science, students are completing a unit on Ecosystems: Interactions, Energy and Dynamics. Students are learning about ecosystems and what is needed to make plants thrive. They have conducted experiments to see the impact sunlight has on the growth of plants. Round Valley School Garden: The RVS garden has been a part of the school for the past eight years and has been cared for by the sixth grade students and teachers as it related to the curriculum. As a part of the reconfiguration of the district this summer, the sixth graders have moved to CTMS, and our fifth graders and teachers at RVS have stepped up to continue this wonderful tradition. On September 7, a group of CTMS sixth grade students and teachers partnered with the fifth grade students and teachers to begin to harvest the garden. The garden had plenty to offer, such as pumpkins, squash, peppers, corn, sunflowers, and tomatoes. In addition, a second visit was coordinated on October 2 to complete the fall harvest, to p l a n t s p i n a c h , and to prepare t h e g a r d e n f o r winter. This was a great opportunity for both schools t o c o l l a b o r a t e and share in this experience! Clinton Township School District Mission Statement: The Clinton Township School District, in partnership with the community, achieves excellence for each child by ensuring a meaningful and challenging educational experience in a supportive environment; developing life-long learners who are responsible and productive citizens. Clinton Township Middle School Students at CTMS have a multitude of extra curricular clubs and sports available to them! The Fall sports season is well underway. Students have an opportunity to participate in boys or girls soccer, volleyball and cross country. Sign ups for the winter season will start soon. Ski club, girls and boys basketball, and cheerleading will be offered. Extra curricular clubs are an important part of CTMS. Clubs currently underway include Camerata Singers, Jazz Band, Guitar Club, Art Club, Garden Beautification Club, School Council, Yearbook and Video Journalism. The students and staff at Clinton Township Middle School have been digging in the dirt! We have two beautiful courtyard spaces that are being transformed. The lower courtyard is our Inspiration gARTen, and features multi-sensory artwork, landscaping and plants. The upper courtyard space will be a vegetable garden that will be planned, planted and harvested by the 6th grade science classes. There are volunteer and sponsor opportunities if you would like to get involved! Please contact Diane Cormican at: dcormican@ctsdnj.org. Our 9th Annual Relay for Life is scheduled for Friday, March 1, from 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm. This year is going to be bigger and better than ever! We already have over 100 middle school students involved in the planning, and the website is open for registration at: www. relayforlife.org/ctmsnj. TREP$ is a fun and empowering entrepreneur program for students, and will return to CTMS for the second year! Students and parents have and will be provided details in informational meetings held in October and November. The Marketplace is scheduled to be held in April. Kidsville!
