The meeting is held on the third Wednesday of each month in the Grandin Room of the Hunterdon County Library, North Branch, in Clinton. The hour-long meeting starts at 7:00 pm. Questions? Meals on Wheels in Hunterdon is a non- profit charitable o r g a n i z a t i o n f o r m e d i n 1973 to meet the challenges o f a g i n g b y p r o m o t i n g h e a l t h a n d i m p r o v i n g t h e q u a l i t y o f l i f e for the seniors of Hunterdon County by offering nutrition services. The goals of our programs are to reduce hunger and food insecurity, promote socialization and support the health and well-being of older adults by providing access to nutrition and other health-related services in an effort to help older adults maintain their independence in their homes and communities. The Nutrition Services Program comprises of five components: Home Delivered Nutrition – A program designed to deliver a nutritionally based meal (one-third of the Recommended Daily Allowance) and as assurance check each weekday between the hours of 11:00 am to 1:00 pm to the homebound seniors of Hunterdon County. Weekend Home Delivered Meals – A program offering two nutritionally balanced cold meals for weekend consumption delivered on Friday between the hours of 11:00 am to 1:00 pm to the homebound seniors. Congregate Nutrition – A program designed to meet the nutritional and social needs of the independent senior. A nutritious meal is served Monday through Friday between the hours of 11 am to 1:00 pm at our nutrition sites with educational and recreational programming. Lunch N Learn – Nutrition Education - A monthly nutritional education program designed and facilitated by our Registered Dietitian for participants to discuss healthier eating while enjoying a meal. Nutrition Counseling – A program for specific diet or healthy eating plans designed by our Registered Dietitian for older adults or caregivers. Individualized advice and guidance about options and methods for improving nutritional status is provided. Scheduled Senior Programs: If you are 60 years of age or older come and enjoy our senior program lunches offered at the Senior Center Café, 4 Gauntt Place, Flemington, Building 1 – Lower Level at 11:45 am. (Suggested donation is $5.25). Wednesday, October 3: What is Diabetes? A Lunch n Learn presentation with Karen Fivek, Dietitian, while enjoying a nutritious meal. Thursday, October 25: The Red Oak Country Boys country band featuring tunes from the 1940's, 50's, and 60's such as Hank Williams, Roy Acuff, Johnny Cash, Marty Robbins, Hank Snow, and George Jones – while enjoying a nutritious meal!
