Our October Talk features Chris Doyle, Director of Biology for SOLitude Lake Management (SLM). Chris has 24 years experience as an aquatic biologist, with a focus on invertebrate, algal and aquatic macrophyte taxonomy. His talk is on Invasive Aquatic Submersed Plants in New Jersey. He will first give us general information on submersed aquatic plant communities, and explain why invasive aquatic plants are an ecological threat to our natural resources. Next he will go into a discussion of 16 different invasive aquatic plants that occur in New Jersey. The second section details the ways in which lake managers assess and map submersed aquatic plant communities. Launched in September of 2015, the Hunterdon Chapter joins eight other county and regional chapters of the Native Plant Society of New Jersey spanning the state from top to bottom. The Native Plant Society of New Jersey, founded in 1985, is a statewide non-profit organization focused on the appreciation, protection and study of the native flora of the Garden State. You needn't be a plant professional to get involved, and the Society attracts all kinds of native plant enthusiasts! An interest in and desire to learn more about native plants is evident by the growing number of people attending our meetings and outdoor events. Our meetings are free and open to anyone, member or not.
